40. How many students do you accept into Audio Recording?

We accept 10 students to both our groups for a total of 20 students per year. This ensures that students benefit from a cohesive group atmosphere, small student / teacher ratio and “hands on” training.

41. Does Audio Recording offer a stage (Internship)?

42. Do Audio Recording graduates find employment?

Yes, our graduates find employment in such areas as sound and rehearsal studios, staging companies, video game developers, radio and television stations, special event organizations and live sound venues, to name several. In addition, many graduates set up their own business such as home-based studios to record band demos and other projects. It should be noted that the employment situation in the music industry has improved quite noticeably in the past few years.

43. How important is it to have a background in music?

We encourage applicants to have a strong base in music so that they can appreciate a good piece of music, know what is required to produce a good piece, and know musicians and how to relate to them. All of our students have a definite passion for music and most are musicians, to some degree. Having this practical background and knowledge will certainly help, although it is not absolutely required.

44. What makes a good sound engineer?

A good sound engineer requires excellent technical skills, a strong appreciation of artistic talent, a good set of ears, a calm manner and good people skills, particularly in dealing with musicians. As an engineer, you will be expected to be efficient and be able to trouble shoot to find solutions when technical difficulties do arise.

45. How important are computer skills?

Like most technology based fields, Audio Recording is increasingly a computer-based environment. Applicants should be familiar with the Internet, email and basic software programs. Some experience with sound software is an asset but is not essential.

46. Does CRAFT help graduates find employment?

We have a Student Placement Office that helps students develop their job search skills, helps them in preparing a CV and a cover letter, and in preparing for an interview. In many of our courses we have practical components that emphasize the skills required for the job market. Also, potential employers periodically and regularly contact us with employment and stage opportunities.
